The Pearls of India is an initiative of European travellers and Indian drivers. At the end of 2009 we decided to make a trip in India. It soon became clear to us that we did not want to make the trip in a group with a travel organisation, but on our own initiative. Via various detours we booked a private driver for a few days. Exciting, because this was the first time for us to travel in such a way!

Once we arrived at the airport in Delhi, we were neatly met by our driver Babu . The contact was special from the first moment. We were immediately absorbed in the Indian culture and were heading for an unforgettable journey. In consultation, we decided which places we wanted to visit. Babu’s knowledge was very useful here. In Delhi, we also met his older brother Bharat, who also worked as a driver.

After long and special conversations, we started to feel that we had to do something for these two brothers. With a few euros a day, they had to earn a living for their families in Nepal. At a young age, they left for the big Delhi, because it was the only way to earn money and take care of a large family.

With the initiative The Pearls of India we started mid 2010 and since then we have tried to mediate between tourists or travelers and drivers from North India. With great pleasure there are already many people who have made an unforgettable trip through India. It is even possible to make a combination trip to India and Nepal, just with the same trusted driver. We wish you a lot of fun planning an unforgettable trip.

Since the end of 2023, the management of this website has been taken over by André. As an enthusiastic traveler and India fan, he will now help Babu and his colleagues mediate your travel requests and answer all your questions via info@thepearlsofindia.com .

Sometimes you meet people in your life who have a special place in your heart. That was also the case with Babu. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical about traveling with a driver at first. We made a trip through India from Varanasi to Delhi, with a number of stops. We were not looking for the tourist hotspots, but we also wanted to see real life in India. Our driver responded to our request as best he could. If something we suggested was not interesting, he said so. The other way around too, things that you should definitely have seen. Of course, we were also a bit hesitant about what our driver would be like. But we had a very nice experience.

Babu is so much more than just a driver! From the moment he picks you up you feel at ease. Babu drove my husband and I around India (Delhi, Agra, Jaipur) and we felt safe with him the entire time. He navigates the crazy traffic with ease. Babu does everything with a smile and nothing is too much trouble. We enjoyed learning about India from him and seeing the sights. We have just finished our 5 day Golden triangle tour with Babu. We had a wonderful time, talking with Babu, with lots of jokes on the way. He is a very good and safe driver through the crazy streets of India. Babu helped us with money exchange and always stopped for a smoke break, or just stretch the legs when asked. His car was exceptionally clean, and it was always a pleasure to see his smiling face in the morning! 11/10 for our experience with Babu, highly recommend!

My friend and I were driven from Delhi to J aipur on Nov 17 by Babu, but our day was so much more than that. Babu thought of our every comfort. The car was clean and comfortable, conversation was friendly and informative. We shared laughs, a stop for coffee, a stop at a shop per my request, adventures through a traffic jam caused by a political parade (which resulted in my capturing wonderful photos of life in a village off the highway and loads of fun laughing with a truckload of women stuck just ahead of us).

Through friends I came into contact with Babu and in January 2018 I made a tour with 2 other friends. It was unforgettable and I was very impressed by India and Babu, our driver. I was happy that he spoke good English, so communication was very easy. And not only that, it was a tour to remember and very interesting to travel with him, because that's how it felt. A week ago we returned from India after a successful trip in every respect that fully met our expectations. The transport was perfectly arranged, Parkesh a very experienced and safe driver. He quickly responded to our specific wishes and was always friendly and courteous. In short, nothing but praise for Pearls of India. Although we had already been to India several times and knew Rajasthan reasonably well, we now dared for the first time to plan a route ourselves off the beaten track and to visit a number of less touristy destinations. One of the highlights was the cattle fair in Nagaur where we hardly saw any other tourists.
